About Me
My name is Natasha and I started Findlay Creek Soap Company in May 2022. After trying to juggle work and homeschooling my three kids during the COVID pandemic, life was getting too hectic and I wasn't finding a sense of fulfillment that comes from a creative and meaningful career.
I also love making handmade soap! The colours and scents are amazing and endlessly creative. Even better is the satisfaction of having a consumable (not to mention calorie-free) product to enjoy. Since my first melt-and-pour soap design many years ago, I have also experimented with making bath bombs, bubble bath, lotions, and lip balms. It is incredibly satisfying! Most of all, I love knowing exactly what is in my products and where they are made.
I moved to the Findlay Creek neighbourhood in Ottawa, Ontario in 2013 with my husband and one year old son. A few months later, our twin girls were born and we have lived in the neighbourhood ever since. Findlay Creek is located south of downtown Ottawa, in the unceded, unsurrendered Territory of the Anishinaabe Algonquin Nation. I am inspired by the natural surroundings of the South Nation watershed - a unique wetland that contains marshland, cedar swamp and calcareous fen. It is prominent feature of the community and home to 90 bird species throughout the year and 40 migratory species.
In my spare time (is there such a thing?), I love baking, singing along to folky/country music, and planning vacations that I may never take. My favourite season is summer - I LOVE the heat - and my favourite food is my BBQ Pizza with my homemade sourdough crust. Yum!
